Stay tuned for announcements for future "We're Talkin' Jazz" pre-concert talks at the Jazz Heritage Center.

As part of its celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, the Jazz Heritage Center is launching a pre-concert talk series - "We're Talkin' Jazz", in collaboration with Yoshi's San Francisco Jazz Club. Top jazz musicians performing at Yoshi's will speak at the Jazz Heritage Center to intimate audiences, treating jazz fans to an unparalleled connection with today's leading artists, while revealing the creative process behind their music.

To inaugurate the series, Grammy-award winning trumpeter, composer and jazz educator, Terence Blanchard, will hold a discussion on Wednesday, April 14th from 6pm-7pm, in the Jazz Heritage Center's Media and Education Center. Blanchard, a New Orleans native, has established himself as one of the most influential jazz musicians and film score masters of his generation, with 29 albums and over 50 film scores to his credit, including Spike Lee's "Mo' Better Blues" and "When the Levees Broke", the soundtrack for "Cadillac Records" and music for Disney's "The Princess and the Frog".

Blanchard will discuss the creative process behind his most recent CD release, "Choices"- a follow-up to his Grammy-winning "A Tale of Gods Will (A Requiem for Katrina)"- featuring the spoken word of noted educator, Dr. Cornel West. Blanchard's will be interviewed by jazz educator and blogger, Dr. Wesley Watkins, and will include time for Q&A with participants.

The Jazz Heritage Center's Media and Education Center is located at 1330 Fillmore at the rear of the lobby next to Yoshi's box office. Blanchard will be performing at Yoshi's San Francisco April 13-15.

The Jazz Heritage Center (JHC) is the only permanent cultural and educational complex dedicated to the long history of Jazz in San Francisco and the Fillmore District. Located within the new Fillmore Heritage Center in the heart of the Historic Fillmore Jazz Preservation District, the non-profit Jazz Heritage Center is part jazz museum, part jazz cultural center, and part jazz art gallery.

By showcasing art and historical exhibitions, concerts, films and youth programming, the JHC’s mission is to preserve and promote jazz, an American national treasure, while celebrating its presence as an active, living art form in San Francisco and beyond.
